
Stages Of C.O.P.D
There are multiple stages of C.O.P.D.. As the stages increase, the severity of the symptoms becomes more life threatening.
Stage 1 (Mild C.O.P.D.)
- Chronic cough that often produces mucus from the lungs
- Frequent respiratory infections
- Lung functioning at 80% efficiency
Stage 2 (Moderate C.O.P.D.)
- Chronic cough producing a lot of mucus
- Shortness of breath
- Occasional C.O.P.D. flare-up
- Frequent respiratory infections
- Lung functioning between 50% and 79% efficiency
Stage 3 (Severe C.O.P.D.)
- Chronic cough containing a large quantity of mucus
- Shortness of breath and fatigue
- Constant and severe C.O.P.D. flare-ups
- Frequent respiratory infections
- Lung functioning between 30% and 49% efficiency
Stage 4 (Very severe C.O.P.D.)
- Chronic cough containing a large quantity of mucus
- Severe shortness of breath
- Weight loss
- Cyanosis (blue skin color in the lips, fingers, and toes)
- Edema (fluid buildup in the legs and feet)
- C.O.P.D. flare-ups that are life-threatening
- Frequent respiratory infections
- Lung Functioning below 30% efficiency
