Who Needs Home Health?

Home health care is a convenient option for patients who would benefit from skilled nursing but prefer to recover at home.

Our medical experts provide nursing care, physical and speech therapy, IV support, and social services. Using advanced digital records, our teams track treatments and progress in real time, keeping you and your family informed every step of the way.

Home health is ideal for patients recovering from illness, injury, or surgery, managing chronic conditions, or needing rehabilitative services. Care begins with a physician’s order for an assessment,
which our nurses can perform at your home or assisted living center.

Does Medicare cover home health?

Yes, Medicare covers home health care for eligible beneficiaries under its Part A and/or Part B plans. To qualify, a patient must be under the care of a doctor who certifies that they need intermittent skilled nursing care, physical therapy, or other specific services. The patient must also be homebound, meaning it’s difficult for them to leave their home without assistance. Medicare covers services like skilled nursing, therapy sessions, and certain medical supplies, but it does not cover round-the-clock care or personal care services.

Who qualifies for home health care services?

Home health care services are available to individuals who meet certain criteria, including:

  • Being under the care of a physician who oversees an individualized care plan.
  • Needing skilled services such as nursing or physical therapy.
  • Being homebound, meaning that leaving the home requires significant effort and assistance.
  • Having insurance coverage, such as Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, or private insurance, that authorizes the services. A home health agency will evaluate eligibility during an initial assessment.
What do home health nurses do?

Home health nurses provide medical care in the patient’s home. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Administering intravenous medications and injections.
  • Wound care and dressing changes.
  • Monitoring vital signs and health conditions.
  • Educating patients and their families about managing medical conditions, medications, and wound care.
  • Coordinating care with physicians and other healthcare providers. Their goal is to help patients recover safely and maintain independence in their home.

Will Medicaid pay for home health care?

Yes, Medicaid covers home health care services for individuals who meet state-specific eligibility requirements. Coverage often includes skilled nursing, therapy services, and personal care assistance. However, Medicaid rules and covered services vary by state, so it is important to check with your local Medicaid office or the home health agency to confirm coverage.
